Self sabotage is one of the main reasons people do not succeed in their life goals. Do you want to make money online? Lose weight? Learn Spanish? Quit smoking? Grow roses? Or something else? And are you on your way to success?
If not, consider whether you are a self-saboteur. Self sabotage affects pretty much everyone at some time, although the super high achievers probably have no idea what I’m talking about (but then I’m pretty sure they won’t be reading this post! J) To succeed in your goals, change the way you think.
1. Think Positively
Stop being a pessimist. Whenever you think “I’m not sure if I can do this, it’s a bit hard for me”, your powerful sub-conscious self hears “I can’t do this” and so your negative thoughts become self-fulfilling. Try saying to yourself “What do I need to do to get this done?” Your sub-conscious will respond positively and you will be amazed at the difference in your achievements.
2. Stop Procrastinating
Procrastination is a killer. I’ve posted about this elsewhere. The best way to overcome procrastination is by making a list of what you have to do and breaking it down into small, manageable steps. You can eat an elephant if you take one bite at a time.
3. Don’t be an Object, Be a Verb
For some people, achieving their dreams is just that, a dream. They behave as if the skills or lifestyle they want will just happen to them if they wait long enough. Life is not like the film, “Matrix”. You can’t just dial up a new skill set and someone will install it for you. You have to take action. If you’re lazy, nothing will change. Take action. DO something. Start right NOW.
4. Move outside your Comfort Zone
You cannot change or improve yourself by staying put. You have to leave your comfort zone to do it. And that may be difficult for you but you have got to do it. If you take it step by step and find a good mentor/teacher and/or support group, you will find it easier to do.
5. Be Brave
If you are too timid and scared to try, you will never succeed. Fortune favours the brave! Do not fail before you even try!
6. Be More Confident
If you want to succeed you must be confident you will. Someone once said (and if I could remember who I’d have attributed it!)
“Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right”.
Think about that. You must believe in yourself if you are going to succeed.
Don’t self sabotage. Give yourself the best chance for success you can. Go for it!
