You go to the doctor and he or she can tell you what your cholesterol is, how your blood pressure reads and what you need to do to keep your body in tip top shape. But there’s no doctor most people visit on a regular basis to examine your overall stress health and recommend a plan for you to carry out for improvement.
Your stress health is extremely important to your quality of life. You can have all the motivation, passion and purpose in the world – but if you suffer from long-term stress, it can make you feel very unfulfilled.
Stress health can be affected in a variety of ways. You start by feeling agitated and then it snowballs into more noticeable changes. You start having trouble sleeping. Headaches become more prevalent in your life. You may even start suffering from extreme fatigue and physical symptoms such as upset stomach or skin problems.
Everyday life can slowly wreak havoc on your stress health, but major events like the death of a loved one, divorce, or even events that should be joyous (like a pregnancy) can cause tremendous inner turmoil.
Because you don’t go for an annual stress health exam with a doctor, you’ll have to be vigilant about your own care in this matter. Look for signs of increased stress and try to eliminate or manage it the best way possible.
If you neglect to take care of your stress health, then you could be positioning yourself for a lifetime of unhappiness, depression or physical and mental dangers such as ulcers, insomnia or even thoughts of suicide.
Take your stress levels seriously. If you don’t find time to reduce your stress levels, no-one will do it for you.
