Top Tips for Online Success
By Susan Owen-Thursfield, March 10, 2009These Top Tips are derived from those given by Bob Parsons, of GoDaddy fame, that I’ve put my own spin on. They apply just as much to success in life in general as to offline and online success. Feel free to add your own if you’ve got something to share.
Get out and stay out of your comfort zone.
Things of consequence rarely happen when you stay in your comfort zone. One definition of madness is to keep doing the same thing but expect different results. Get out of your comfort zone, do something different and change your stars.
Never give up.
Almost nothing works the first time. But that doesn’t mean it won’t. You might not have given it enough time. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Remember, there are a million ways to succeed online but only one way to fail – to give up. Keep going and you will get there.
When you’re ready to quit, remember success is closer than you think.
There is a Chinese Proverb that says “The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed.” And bear in mind that the taller the building, the deeper are the foundations. If you are truly building a business fr lasting success, it will take time. Are you sure you’re not quitting just as you’re about to start building upwards?
Quantify your fears.
Fear of the unknown is a common phobia. And if you’re well outside your comfort zone there will be a lot of unknown things. Quantify what could be the worst thing that could possibly happen and you will see that it’s probably not as scary as you first imagined.
Focus on what you want to have happen.
Remember the Law of Attraction, “As you think, so shall you be.”
Take things one day at a time.
Winston Churchill said “When you’re going through Hell, keep going”. You can get through anything one day at a time.
Always move forward.
Keep investing. Keep improving. Keep doing something new.
Be quick to decide.
Don’t get it right, just get it going. This is tough for perfectionist but as Nike said, Just Do It.
Measure everything of significance.
Anything that is measured and watched, improves.
Anything that is not managed will deteriorate.
And conversely, anything that is not watched will develop problems. If you want to uncover problems you don’t know about, examine areas you haven’t focused on for a while.
Pay attention to your competitors, but pay more attention to what you’re doing.
Don’t get spooked by your competitors; everything looks perfect at a distance. Focus on what you’re doing and don’t get distracted.
Don’t be pushed around.
You have just as much right to what you’re doing as anyone else, provided what you’re doing is legal.
Don’t expect life to be fair.
Life isn’t fair. You make your own breaks. Success is not an accident.
Solve your own problems.
Outsource by all means but come up with your own solutions. That way you’ll develop a competitive edge.
Lighten up.
None of us is in control as much as we like to think we are.
Smile.
There’s always a reason to smile. Find it. After all, you’re really lucky just to be alive.

These tips are valuable because they are just what I need! Can a person be a perfectionist and a procrastinator? And there are so many distractions! Goooddnneeeesssss. Like I said, I need to remember these tips since I don’t have the ability to spit myself in a different clone-like beings, get more accomplished and then become one at the end of the day. THANK YOU!
